This belt is the result of a project between Tender and Morten Kristensen’s For Holding Up The Trousers. Morten’s been a friend for a number of years, and makes his brand of suspenders and belts by hand at his workbench in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The Full Fold belt is hand cut from Swedish vegetable-tanned leather, which is unstained and will darken beautifully with age. Unlike most leather belts, which are folded over at one end with a short overlap behind the buckle, the Full Fold belt is cut fully double the length of the finished piece. A hole for the buckle tongue is punched half way down, and the belt is folded in half, with the buckle in the middle. Morten then sews the entire belt all round, by hand sewn, with waxed linen thread, before punching the holes through the double thickness of leather.
The buckle is custom sand-cast in solid brass, from a buckle taken from Morten’s father’s favourite belt, which Morten remembers from when he was a child. It has an integral keeper and is stamped ‘FHUTT’ on the back.
The holes end of the belt is double branded with the Plautus face and For Holding Up The Trousers’ 3715 brand. This was the number of the old pig farm where Morten grew up, and he found the spiked branding iron in an outbuilding. The belt is 1¼” wide, slightly narrower than most Tender belts, making it suitable for use with casual trousers as well as heavier jeans.
